Our Brand: How to Convey It.

Web Header and Footer Download

The University of Minnesota’s Brand Policy requires that all websites on the umn.edu domain include an approved web header and footer. (Not included in this requirement are umn.edu personal websites hosted by the University.)

The web header and footer, as well as the umn.edu domain, may only be used by a campus, college, unit, department, or center to conduct official University business.

See Web Header and Footer Requirements for more information about how to use the header and footer.

If you have questions or comments about using the header and footer, please contact urweb@umn.edu.

GitHub download

The updated headers and footers are available on GitHub. If you are unsure of how to use GitHub or compile Sass to CSS, consider waiting for the Template Builder or requesting custom code (see below).

Drupal

Updated headers and footers will be available in the Drupal base theme in mid-April. If you are already using the base theme and have made no changes to the header and footer, you will be able to easily change to the updated headers and footers.

Template builder

An automated method for choosing options to build a customized header and footer, or a full page template, is in the works. We hope to release the template builder in mid- to late April.

If you are unable to use the header and footer code provided on GitHub and would like to use the updated headers and footers on your web site(s) immediately, fill out this form to make your request. Your customized code will be emailed to you. Remember, there is no urgency to update existing headers and footers.

Options for Favicon

Browsers that support favicon typically display it in the address bar and next to the page's name in a list of bookmarks. All U of M sites should use the block M.

Instructions—Use the download button on the right to bring up the favicon in your web browser. Copy the favicon directly from your browser window.

Looking for Drupal Templates?

If you're setting up a Drupal site through OIT, you'll find the current web header and footer in the U's Drupal base theme. If you're setting up a site outside the U's Drupal, you should download the appropriate html from this page to add it to your site.
